The holiday season begins early for me, right on November first, when the air shifts and the world feel a little softer. This time of year, always brings out my spirit of generosity, a feeling shaped by the kindness I received from strangers as a child. Those small acts stayed with me, so now I make it a point to give quietly and intentionally, not as “Cree Cole,” but as myself. I donate to community action initiatives in the Florence area, support winter drives, and offer my time to children in my family and community. It’s the little things that count, and they truly make the season meaningful.
Giving doesn’t always mean gifts or money. It can be compassion, time, encouragement, or simply choosing to show up with a sincere heart. That is the foundation of National Giving Month: intentional generosity that strengthens our emotional well-being. And in the midst of the holiday rush, I hope you remember this too: give yourself permission to rest. Rest is a gift, and you deserve the peace that comes with it. Every act of giving, no matter the size, carries healing when it comes from a genuine place.
If you’re looking for ways to embrace the season, try attending a holiday event, volunteering for even an hour, donating gently used items, supporting a small business, or sharing kindness freely. Whether you go with family, friends, or take yourself on a festive solo outing, these moments can bring a sense of joy and connection that lasts far beyond December.
Here are a few Florence, SC events you can explore this month: the Florence Christmas Parade, Downtown Holiday Night Market, Timrod Park’s Festival of Lights, the Florence Symphony Holiday Pops Concert, the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, or even family nights at Southgate Bowling. For those who want to give back, consider supporting Harvest Hope Food Bank, The Salvation Army Angel Tree, House of Hope of the Pee Dee, Lighthouse Ministries, Pee Dee Community Action Partnership, or local foster care drives.
As you move through this season, let your giving be intentional, heartfelt, and aligned with your capacity. May your December be filled with peace, joy, softness, and the quiet magic that makes this time of year unforgettable.
